to School Supplies and Backpacks |
Because
of their many behavioral and emotional difficulties, children in River
Oak programs struggle with low self-esteem and often feel they are "different" or that they don't belong. For our children, attending the first day of school with a backpack filled with basic school supplies is a great boost to their confidence and overall attitude toward school. As most River Oak families are low income, a gift of a backpack and school supplies will be of tremendous help to families who otherwise could not afford them. While the need is greatest right before the start of the new school year, River Oak receives requests from families for assistance with school supplies and backpacks all year long.
